Concentrate Smoking | 8 of 31 Days to Free Your Mind about Cannabis

Concentrates are marijuana plants that have been cooked in a solvent. That means that hash, hash oil, and cannabis oil are all classified as concentrates. Concentrates are merely a stronger, more concentrated form of marijuana which is wonderful news for chronic pain patients wanting some relief. There are quite a few devices that you could use to smoke concentrates and I will detail them below.

Kief in the bottom of a grinder.

Consuming Concentrates...

The most important pieces of advice I can give
...the healthiest pieces of advice...
are to always smoke out of a water filtration device
and to smoke concentrates cautiously
until you're an experienced consumer!

Penguin Dabber by Chaka Glass
Hash has gotten quite a bad rap since most people associate hash as being a harsher drug when, in reality, it is merely marijuana cooked down. Hash is stronger because the kief (holds most of the trichomes) in the marijuana is used to make it. Dabs, also known as earwax, wax, or shatter, is a form of hash oil that has been cooked into a fine, see through sheet of concentrated liquid which dries hard.
Storing resin in a glass jar is a healthier option.
Another type of concentrate is resin. I would just like to say that I adore resin. I think it's pretty awesome that, after smoking the dry herb, that it is converted into a resin that can be smoked by itself. It is in between the consistency of a gooey dab and a cannabis oil. It is thick and, when smoked, is very potent in odor. There are two very important reasons why I adore resin. One is the fact that it's basically recycled weed because the dry herb got me high and then there's still this left over to smoke! And, two, is that the concentrated resin will get you higher than dry herb and it is extremely potent for chronic pain patients. Collect resin whenever your bong stem gets full into a glass jar and store with the lid screwed on tight to prevent the resin from drying and becoming hard.

Cannabis Oil
A third type of concentrate, and the most important, is Cannabis Oil (also known as Hemp Oil). Cannabis Oil is what everyone talks about when they discuss what cures cancer. When making cannabis oil, the plant is cooked down into a food grade solvent and then it is ingested or smoked for various ailments. This oil is not easy to come by in illegal states or Colorado. Colorado has some sort of law that says that regular people can't get their oil tested and it's causing medical marijuana patients to have difficulty acquiring this very important medicine. It is when the whole plant is ingested that true internal healing and curing can begin. For our purposes here I will be showing you how to smoke it, but in future posts I will be going into further detail about ingesting it.

There are many types of devices to smoke concentrates and I will list them by their ease of use and tell you how to use the device.

The Pipe*
...glass water pipe or bong is recommended
Recommended for the Intermediate or Experienced Cannabis Consumer

$75 on Artfire

Fill your bowl with dry herb and pick up your dab or resin with your dabber. Place the dab into the marijuana and roll it into the herb. Light and smoke it. Be advised that this is a more pungent smoke. You will need incense even if you think you won't!

The Vape Pen*
...for concentrates or cannabis oil
Recommended for the Intermediate or Experienced Cannabis Consumer

I love vape pens! They are so easy to use, they hardly smell when used, and you can use resin, cannabis oil or dabs in this handy vape pen. I have a bubble vaporizer attachment that I use on an old Amazing Vaporizer. A couple of puffs and I'm in heaven! I especially love it for the times when I find it difficult to smoke because I cough very little when smoking out of this device!

The Recycler
Recommended for the Experienced Cannabis Consumer

For dabs, resin, or cannabis oil consumption.

Concentrates with the names of earwax, wax or shatter are all forms of hash most commonly called dabs. Dabs have taken Colorado and the nation by storm. They are a more concentrated version of marijuana, so they should be smoked with caution. I recommend a puff or two or a pin like size dab on your dab nail or dabber for your first time because just those couple of puffs will get an experienced dry herb smoker really, really stoned.

Smoking dry herb or concentrates are really easy once you get into it. Instagram is a really great learning tool for anyone wanting to learn more. Just search '#dabs' and you'll come up with a wealth of knowledge and videos on how to use all the up to date devices. If you come across CoralReefer420, tell her I said hi!

Whatever device you use to smoke concentrates is of little importance. The most important thing is that you find relief from your illness and its symptoms!!

Stay tuned for a post on edibles! YUM!!!

*Home concentrate consumption is advised, but driving with concentrates is not. Most illegal states have laws with harsher fines and jail time. In Texas one can face a lifetime in prison for possession of concentrates.

What is Cannabis Oil? | 3 of 31 Days to Free Your Mind About Cannabis

My quest for answers about my neurological disorder led me to cannabis oil. As many of you may or may not know, I'm an activist for marijuana reform in Texas. It's been a passion of mine for a little while now. I became a believer when I sought something more natural to help me with pain. I've been smoking it for the past year for medicinal purposes. It's amazing for pain relief and I don't feel as unhealthy as I did while I on Vicodin.

While doing research on Parkinson's, I came across cannabis medical studies on a regular basis. These studies are about patients not only smoking it, but ingesting cannabis oil. The entire marijuana plant, using alcohol as a solvent, is cooked down into a thick resinous oil. When ingested in this manner marijuana becomes a formidable and powerful medicine.

"Run From The Cure" has a bunch of important patient testimonials and it explains what the oil is and how it is made. It's important to understand this so that you can understand how it heals the body.
"Run From the Cure" was the very first movie I ever watched about cannabis oil. I had heard of cannabis oil, but I didn't really know what it was. Dr. Sanjay Gupta's Weed episode touches on the topic briefly, but I wanted to share this video because it's the most important video that anyone with a debilitating disease can watch.

Cannabis oil is the entire plant cooked down using a solvent (I suggest Everclear, not rubbing alcohol as it's less toxic) and then the patient ingests the oil. This oil is highly potent and it is what everyone is talking about. This is what cures cancer and a multitude of other debilitating diseases. If cannabis can't cure it, it can sure make your quality of life way more enjoyable!

Please watch this video and share it with your friends. Education is key to solving our health problems!

Cannabis Oil can cure a multitude of ailments. This is a short list!

Progress | Dysfunction Junction Part 2

The train continued its fast past by making today the very worst that I've ever had in terms of tremors. This morning I woke in terrible pain in my right shoulder and neck. I woke up, stiffly got up out of bed and stumbled into the shower. As soon as the scalding water hit my neck and shoulder I started crying. I was in serious pain.

I stood in the shower as long as I was able and then I made it back to the bed and waited for 8 am. It came slowly. Bill brought me my morning dose of Cannabis Olive Oil (my healer had authorized an increase) and I was almost in tears again when I saw it. I desperately needed relief. I waited one hour and then I gave up and smoked three bowls of marijuana.

I made love to my significant other and then got up to get dressed. My movements did not get better after smoking, but my mood did and I got ready for breakfast. During a normal Saturday morning conversation my spouse and I converse in a lively manner and today was no different. As I was trying to put on a shirt and yoga pants I began to notice pretty severe tics that I could not control. It seemed like the tics were going to happen today no matter what I had planned.

They are just as weird and odd looking as you could imagine. My neck kept jerking to the left and my speech was noticeably slurred. I could tell that Bill could tell, but he never said a word about the cognitive dysfunction. He made some half ass joke about my tics, but other than that said nothing. He held onto me and asked me constantly if I needed help. I can tell often when he's feeling overwhelmed with everything. He's such a special intuitive and empathic man. I don't often have to tell him how I'm feeling because he just knows and he sometimes knows before I do.

I found an Austin 420 magazine in the car and I began reading aloud an article that Tracy Ansley wrote about the Texas Exodus to Colorado because neurological disorder patients seeking medical marijuana are moving there. It was about this young boy who had to move to Colorado without his father and how much he misses him and wishes that marijuana were legal in Texas so he could be home again with his family. My throat caught in a sob the minute I ended the paragraph. I looked at Bill and saw tears rolling down his cheeks just like mine. We smiled at each other and then Bill helped me into the restaurant.

My legs began doing a very odd dance as we looked for a booth. Walking that short walk was interesting because I found myself stopping a lot. I also started doing this thing with my feet where I stand up on my tip toes as I walk. We ordered and talked a little. My speech was slurring and I found myself almost stopping quite a bit. Some of it was because I couldn't start a word. Either I couldn't remember it or I couldn't get it out of my mouth. There was a bunch of stuttering. Stuttering has been going on for quite a bit now, but this was new and more pronounced.

The food finally came. I was starving. I started filling my tortilla with eggs, potato and beans and found that I couldn't do it very well. I was moving so very, very slowly. My fork went toward the beans and slowly moved to scrape it into my tortilla. I tried to move faster, but I just couldn't. The eggs were a bit harder to scoop up, but I managed to get some into my taco. The slowness wasn't getting to me I kept repeating internally, but, then again, it was. Then there were three or four fried potatoes to place on top. Then there was the salsa. Then I had to stop and drink a bunch of water because I was so very thirsty. By the time I had finished loading up my first taco Bill had already eaten half his plate and I was sick of eating.

After breakfast we went and picked up my daughter for her weekend visit. Usually I try to not show my girls what I look like when I'm like this, but today I decided that I'm not going to try to hide it anymore in public. It's stupid really, because if I try to stop the movement from happening in one area then it just moves to another or the movements get out of control. I notice that if I just let them happen that I feel better. My muscles don't get quite as tense.

Today I showed my daughters my terrible movements. They were understandably not happy about the day's illness, but they were okay with it. My youngest told me that I looked funny when I did my head jerk movements which, thankfully, didn't last too long. I told her that I'm sure they looked funny, but they did not feel good and that I was embarrassed about what it looked like. My seven year old stopped and thought about it before telling me that I shouldn't be embarrassed and I was the best mommy in the whole world. That made me smile really big and it warmed my heart. She's such a wonderful, empathetic old soul!

After dinner my kid and I went to Kmart to buy her some clothes. There's only one handicapped shopping cart in the store, so M pushed the cart for me and we shopped. I was happy, but exhausted. My body had been through hell already with constant movements and it was tired, but I had a job to do for my daughter.

While trying on clothes I noticed the attendant paying attention my conversation with my daughter. I wonder if the lady thought I was drunk when I spoke to her. My words were slurred, filled with stutters, and I bumped into stuff when I walked near her.

My train is on a fast track, but right now I'm having a bit of reprieve. My body is finally slowing down and my brain is slowly lifting the brain fog alert. The aches and pains are at a higher level than normal, but it's manageable. I had someone ask me how I stay so strong which is very sweet. I thought about it before I replied, "It's not that I'm strong. I have belief that there is a reason why I'm on this blazing train. Maybe it's because this is what I'm supposed to be doing. Maybe this is my reason for living."

Wellness Journal | Symptom: Depression & Memory Problems

Pain Level:
8 out of 10. (10 being the worst).

Symptoms:
2:12 am: can't sleep, head hurts, anxious, can't feel anything on my skin. I don't want to wake Bill and worry him. :(

Progression notes:
I'm having bouts of depression at least once a week. Just incredible sadness and grief over what I'm going through. This morning I cried for hours.

New therapies:
got my second supply of oil today from my very sweet benefactor! I get free oil in exchange for documenting my progress! Not too shabby!!!
:D

What's going on in my life today:
This week Angel had to go to the emergency room because she thought she was having a stroke or a seizure. She told me on Monday morning right after I had just taken a large dose (something was going on that day with me and my pain I think), so I absolutely forgot. I didn't even tell Bill. Looking back I remember bits and pieces of the conversation and I think I thought that it wasn't a seizure at the time so dismissed it figuring I would explain later or something. She sent me a pic of her hand. I noticed it looks similar to mine during the worst if the storm. I gave her a few tips on hand massage and we agreed to do weekly skypes to keep up with our progress.

Mental:
Started out shaky. I was crying because I was in terrible pain and because I was scared for both me and my sister. I know it's not my burden and it's my intention to learn how to release it. If I don't it will poison my relationship with my sister and I've taken an oath to avoid all poisons! ;)

Happiness Level:
6 out of 10. (10 being the best.)

Stress Level:
7 out of 10. (10 being worst.)

Bedtime and Sleep issues:
hard time sleeping due to pain.

Marijuana consumption:
Smoked a couple of times, but smoking out of a pipe here and there I can do without coughing so hard I want to vomit. The oil is so much better!

Wellness Journal | Cannabis Oil Concentrate Short Study Day 2

I took the first dose last night and feel fine. I felt it almost immediately. My spouse says that's not possible, but it's how I felt. Within an hour I was pretty woozy. This morning I woke to less pain and my hand and wrist look somewhat normal!!!

10:40 AM
Pain level: 6 out of 10.
Time for my next dose at 11am, then again at 4pm and 10pm.

Didn't take a dose at 11 AM so it took some more at 1 PM. I'm kind of getting used to the taste.

1pm Cannabis Oil Dose

8/24/14 Notes:
I was so super doped up the rest of the day that I didn't do much! I was woozy and tired. I kept falling asleep whenever I sat still for just a moment. It was kind of surreal how much it made me tired. I was still feeling pain, but nothing like before.

The dreams were impressive. I've never had such lucid dreams before. I also remember waking up in a panic, like a panic attack, thinking that something was wrong. Realizing nothing was wrong, I drifted back into sleep. Sleep was really difficult the first night mostly because my sleeping was so lucid. I knew what was going on around me and during my dreams. It was very odd and I had a difficult time adjusting to the feeling.

DISCLAIMER: These journals are intended for informational purposes only.
Help with the cramping and the tremors but doesn't get rid of them.

Going to get a scale today and some gelatin capsules.

Wellness Journal | Cannabis Oil Concentrate Short Study Day 1

Pain level:
8.5 out of 10.

Notes:

12:16 pm:
Tired. Great sex this morning increased my serotonin levels. Severe right hand and arm pain. Trying to relax and remember that everything that's meant to be will be. Trying not to post any negative stuff on Facebook. It's really hard, but I'm trying! Eyes hurt, glasses broke today. Should've been upset, but wasn't. Why is it I feel like I need an assistant and why don't I get everything done in a done that I need to get done?

2:55 pm:
I've been avoiding the mailbox because I'm supposed to get a special secret package today but it was supposed to be here two or three days ago so i'm psyching myself out about it which sucks! it's going to be there I believe that it's going to be there because that's what I believe and that's what I want so I'm emanating love out of my chest right now.... I take that feeling I get when I'm with Bill and I put it inside my chest until my entire body feels like it's pulsing that vibration...

4:00 pm:
I got my oil a few minutes ago!!! It's kind of amazing! It came in an ordinary box, and a gold envelope sealed envelope. I gently tore the envelope open and found a tube of dark green oil. It smelled immediately upon opening it. Amazing, really, how like marijuana it smelled, yet...it smelled like the most marvelous marijuana I've ever seen...

Eating it was fun. I got some on my fingers and I had to gnaw at it with my teeth until it disappeared enough for me to use soap. (No, soap didn't work on it.) I put a small drop of oil on a piece of seaweed and that made me gag, but I kept it down.

9:35 pm: I took it at 8:30. I've been feeling the effects from that from the very minute I took it. 15 minutes after ingesting the oil, my boyfriend, Bill, gave me a shotgun (passing marijuana smoke with mouth to mouth) and that kind of set it off and now I'm so high...so, very, Very high.............

Research | How to Find Information on Cannabis Oil and Your Ailment

What is Cannabis Oil?

To understand the various research that you read about neurological disorders you're going to need wikipedia and a good dictionary. I recommend these as places to start in doing research so you can begin to understand terminology. Understanding terminology is the very first and most important thing you can do when trying to understand if cannabis will help your ailment.

There are many places to start to introduce people to the vast amount of research that is readily available. I usually start by telling them to view:

Rick Simpson's "Run From The Cure",

Sanjay Gupta's "Weed",

and Sanjay Gupta's "Weed 2".

Then I recommend reading these articles:

  1. The Chemicals in Cannabis
  2. What is Cannabis Oil?
  3. Meet Your Cannabinoid Receptors
  4. Cannabis May Help Heal The Brain After Injury: Pretty important study that proves that cannabis helps in so many different areas of the brain
After reading these articles then I recommend googling "medical study", "your ailment" and "medical marijuana". I will be posting articles periodically that I find relevant, but it's important that you do your own research since there is so very little out there in comparison to western medicine. I still think we're way ahead of the game though, considering that we are all guinea pigs! Of course, not you or me! We're cannabis warriors!

Research | Cannabis Oil for Neurological Disorders

Two good videos to watch are Run From The Cure and Weed.

Run From The Cure has a bunch of important patient testimonials and it explains what the oil is and how it is made. It's important to understand this so that you can understand how it heals the body.

Weed is Dr. Sanjay Gupta's explanation of why he changed his mind about medical marijuana.

According to many studies cannabis oil can prevent further degeneration of brain cells in Parkinson's. The research does not say that it cures the disorder, but it does say that it slows it down and that's pretty wonderful news when one is facing a death sentence. Let's be frank about it. Parkinson's is a death sentence. It's a slow deterioration of the body and the mind until the soul is merely trapped at the end gasping for escape. It's not a way any of us would wish to die. So, when there are alternatives that are surfacing that are showing promising results, then one must look at all alternatives.

I have been a smoker all but five years of my nineteen year smoking life. I began smoking at age 21. I was curious about it's relaxing qualities. It helped me a ton during stressful times in my life. I smoked it a lot when I was misdiagnosed with bipolar and it was very helpful. I stopped smoking it because I started listening to my critics about what a horrible mother I was for smoking marijuana. I didn't understand at the time that cannabis has many medicinal qualities. I was still hearing the old programming and myth that marijuana is an evil drug. What people should've been saying all along is, "Marijuana has been used by people for centuries and it's a wonderful, natural alternative to pharmaceuticals."

I am not fond of pharmaceuticals. I think they're pure poison. They are wrapped up in a wholesome package, and they are far from natural. They cause more disease and I refuse to put any more chemicals into my body. I may not know what I have, but I do know that whatever I have I got from a chemical toxin.

So, I received my cannabis oil on August 15, 2014. I've been documenting it so that I can share my progress with you. I can't deny that the progress is pretty interesting and certainly contains a wow factor...

Research | Self Diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease

I remember as a Bipolar patient that I was never supposed to question my doctors. Society thinks that doctors know everything simply because they attend college for eight years. Most people think that doctors have their patient's best interests at heart and some do, but most are more concerned with the bottom dollar than the patient.

My diagnosis has evolved over the years. It's not an easy thing to be a bipolar patient and even harder to be a misdiagnosed one. The drugs that they put you on dope you up more than illegal drugs and they pollute your liver, kidneys and brain like any other. I will go so far as to venture to say that antispychotics, antidepressants, and benzos are the kind of drugs that make you crazier than you were to begin with.

But, I digress. I want to share with you my most recent findings that suggest that what I'm suffering from was caused by a combination of GMOs and pharmaceuticals. Western medicine has given me the diagnosis of Tardive Dyskinesia, but I'm discovering that Parkinson's Disease is my true diagnosis. I'm self diagnosing myself. I'm aware that many people will think I'm crazy (what's new?!), but I say that I'm crazy like a fox. I'm not being a complacent patient anymore. I'm doing the research, standing up for what I believe in and I'm sticking to it!

Over the last six months my disease has progressed tremendously. I've gone from merely having cramping and pain (rigidity) in my left hand and arm to cramping and pain in the left shoulder and neck to cramping and pain in my right hand, arm, neck and shoulder. Since October I've developed severe dizziness from standing up (I've learned to stand up slowly, but it doesn't matter) that makes me feel faint and I've fallen a few times. Since January I've noticed a steady decline in my thought process and I find myself unable to finish my thoughts that are voiced aloud in conversation.

After researching pharmaceutical options (only two drugs for Parkinson's and one is an antipsychotic. We all know how I feel about those!) I have concluded that cannabis oil is essential for the future of my health.

Here are my educated reasons for my self diagnosis of Parkinson's:

1. I was born in Minot, North Dakota in 1974. In 1970, rapeseed began to be mass-produced in that region. Interestingly enough thereare more North Dakotans that have Parkinson's than any other place in theUnited States. The common herbicide used during that time was 2, 4-D. For those not in the know, 2, 4-D was an ingredient in Agent Orange that was used in the Vietnam war. The high prevalence of the herbicide led the Center for Food Safety's report detailing how the herbicide is the reason for the greater numbers of Parkinson's in the area. Pesticides and GMOs are a leading cause of Parkinson's. I read an article that suggests that the herbicide was over everything in the Red River Basin area and babies crawling on the ground were highly susceptible to poisoning from it.

2. At every appointment my neurologist, which specializes in Parkinson’s, has questioned why my illness is progressing when typical Tardive Dyskinesia patients don’t usually progress. In fact, they are usually all better within a couple of years after taking antipsychotics. I’ve been off antipsychotics since 2011. I’ve done some research that suggests that the antipsychotics just kicked in my Parkinson’s earlier than usual.

3. My body presents the following arguments: I have a tremor, rigidity and cramping throughout my body, andorthostatic hypotension which leads to postural instability (my blood pressure gets low and I faint or fall) with dyskinesia movements (looks like my left arm is dancing, uncontrollable), and I'm beginning to experience cognitive dysfunction (I can’t finish my thoughts that are said aloud in conversation). I have three out of the four defining characteristics that are necessary to diagnose Parkinson's.

4. Unfortunately, western medicine dictates that Bradykinesia, the last characteristic, must be present to diagnose Parkinson's. Many patients who are eventually diagnosed with Parkinson's suffer from all of the symptoms for years, maybe decades  before they actually get to the slow and jerky movements. Most Parkinson's patients are diagnosed at the median age of 67.

After researching pharmaceutical options (only two drugs for Parkinson's and one is an antipsychotic. We all know how I feel about those!) I have concluded that cannabis oil is essential for the future of my health. I'm taking steps to attain the substance legally since it is not legal in the state that I live in.

I have to move to Colorado and I'm partially unhappy about my decision. I have children here and it will tear me apart to leave them, but it is my only viable hope to living a pain free life.

I have an appointment scheduled in a couple of weeks to see my specialist, Dr. Varga, but I'm unsure if she can do anything to help me. She is one of the best neurologists in Austin. She's good at being a western medical doctor, but I'm not sure if she's up to date on cannabis research and that's the kind of neurologist I need.

I may not have a medical diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, but I know what's going on with my body. I scorn all western medicine anyway. It doesn't matter what they say. It only matters if the cannabis oil works for my symptoms and it does and that's A-FUCKING-OKAY for me!

Research | Tardive Dyskinesia

Prognosis: "there is no known cure or treatment option to improve symptoms. In fact, many physicians will simply opt to change the patient's medications or eliminate medication use altogether although, ultimately, symptoms of tardive dyskinesia may not improve". [Source]
What Tardive Dyskinesia is:
Antispychotics cause the disorder which is mainly characterized by involuntary movements more often in the face and hands.

"They are often mistaken for psychiatric disturbances and patients may be shunned. During episodes of dystonia, opposing muscles that should relax contract. This can result in a limb that appears distorted. One of the most common manifestations is an ankle that twists and won't bear weight. In some cases, muscle groups that should be uninvolved in the activity being attempted will get involved. The result can be shoulders that swing violently during walking or an entire arm and shoulder that cramp and contort while the hand is holding a pen. In some instances, the opposing hand/arm/shoulder may also contort in a perverse sympathy." [Source]

Tardive dystonia is a syndrome of sustained muscle contractions, frequently causing either (a) twitching and repetitive movements, or (b) abnormal postures (14). Blepharospasm, grimacing, torticollis, retrocollis, and the Pisa syndrome are characteristic movements of tardive dystonia. [The Treatment of Tardive Dyskinesia

Antipsychotics work by blocking dopamine receptors along three pathways, and over the long-term, these pathways become increasingly dysfunctional (at least in a high percentage of patients.) The dysfunction in the basal ganglia leads to tardive dyskinesia. The dysfunction in the limbic system and the frontal lobes leads to tardive psychosis and tardive dementia.

So, the antipsychotics blocked my dopamine and as a result, I now have TOO little dopamine

Dopamine is defined as a catecholamine. This means that it is a hormone functioning as a neurotransmitter. The body's nervous system is a sophisticated communication network with the brain sending signals to the various systems through electrochemical impulses. These signals travel through the nerves to the terminals, where they interface with receptors on the surface of cells. In order for those signals to pass from the nerve endings, or synapses, to the cell receptors, dopamine — in very specific amounts — must be present. Dopamine also affects emotional state, perceptions, behavior and cognitive thinking.
This paper proposes that the neuropsychiatric symptoms of tardive dyskinesia, akathisia and pseudoparkinsonian tremor are modulated by a noradrenergic pathway that projects from the locus coeruleus to the linbic system. -AND- Noradrenergic modulation of the limbic system by way of the locus coeruleus accounts for a number of clinical observations, such as the worsening of tardive dyskinesia by stress, the greater risk for tardive dyskinesia in patients with affective disorder, the time-of-onset of tardive dyskinesia, and the coexistence of tardive dyskinesia and pseudoparkinsonism. [source]

The influence of stress on dopamine receptors:

Besides the qualitative approach to coping with stress, what bodily mechanisms are responsible for dealing with anxiety? The nervous system is almost solely credited with this task. The complex interaction system between billions of individual neurons facilitates large number of behaviors that result due to inputs originating inside and outside the organism. Spaces between neighboring neurons are called synapses, and one way in which they communicate is by sending chemical signals called neurotransmitters across the presynaptic membrane to the postsynaptic membrane. Years of nervous system research have determined that stress activates the neurotransmitter, dopamine. [source]

Although some alternatives and dopamine agonists (drugs that help to restore normal levels of dopamine) have been of some use in treating tardive dyskinesia, the best treatment found thus far is prevention. [source]

    6. However, in the reward circuit, just as in the case of other drugs, more dopamine is released. As with opiates, this paradoxical increase is explained by the fact that the dopaminergic neurons in this circuit do not have CB1 receptors, but are normally inhibited by GABAergic neurons that do have them. The cannabis removes this inhibition by the GABA neurons and hence activates the dopamine neurons. [source]
